Edinburgh Castle Motto

Above the entrance to Edinburgh castle is the Motto which  I THINK
 is  "Nemo Me Impune La Cessit"

Can anyone tell what it means and who put it there please.

It's the motto of the Thistle.

The gateway that bears the motto was built in Victorian times - 1886-88.
