Discovered that Stella May LAIRD married her mother's brother William Albert MURPHY.  I think they were hiding in Winnipeg from their families.  On their marriage certificate he gave the correct names for his parents but claimed to have been born in Bridgewater Mass. rather than his real birthplace of PEI.  She claimed to be 6 years older than her actual age, gave the correct name for her father but said her mother's name was Eliza Stewart rather than the true name of Mysie Jane Murphy.  Her death certificate has her mother's name as Mysa Jane Stewart and the correct birthdate of 8 Jul 1894.  They married in Winnipeg on 22 May 1918 and she died in Winnipeg 13 Dec 1920.  She had 3 children that were adopted sometime after the 1921 census when William A Murphy is shown still with them.

Roger thanks for the help, I already had all of the Murphy siblings baptism info.  I will post a separate update on all that is known to date about the births and deaths of the children of John A LAIRD & Mysie Jane MURPHY.

I am just trying to reconcile some records for a Stella Laird, related to a Stewart family to convince myself that there are not two different people involved(or to fit these records into your picture).

Roger

There is a border crossing for Stella Laird in April 1913 in which she is given as 18 years old, born in Tigrish, last living in St Anthony,PEI(same as Forrest some years later). Her contact is given as her Aunt Mrs Robert Stewart,Boston,Mass. She is not a Stewart so the relationship must be between Robert and Mysie Jane(Eliza Jane?).Further the reason for her journey may be the record for an Emma Laird born Sept 1913 to Stella M Laird of PEI,no father given. There is also a record for 1916 of a male child born to Stella M Laird, also no father given,in Cambridge Mass.So perhaps her husband, was from Bridgewater.Isn't this person the William Albert you atre talking about? If,so it is not he who married Stella

If it is her grave In Elmwood cemetery,Winnipeg, therev is a William A,died 1922,there also.

It feels like there is still some work to be done .

Roger

Know that Stella had a daughter born 22 Sep 1914, a son born 11 Apr 1916 and a son born 11 Aug 1918.  Unsure whether William Albert Murphy sired any of these children, she was well into her last pregnancy when they married.  The William A in Elmwood Cemetery is not William Albert.  Found Stella, recorded as Stallia Murphy living with her Murphy grandparents in the 1901 census.

Caroline Elizabeth Murphy was married to Robert Stewart, they lived in Watertown Massachusetts.  This was the aunt that Stella May Laird crossed the border to visit in 1913.
