Mary Parry born 1839 father William Parry
« on: Friday 23 January 15 18:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,

I wonder if someone could help me with this woman..

Mary Parry was born in 1839
her father was William Parry a farmer
she was a welsh speaker which makes me thinks she came from "non local stock" as in migrants from other parts of wales..

we know that her father was William from her marriage cert which I will attach

anyways,

in 1861 she was working in Llanedeyrn,Cardiff as a dairy maid and she says born 1840 in St.Mellons
in 1863 she married Francis Cherrett who it seems was originally from Dorset but with strong links to Newport..
in 1871 she was Mary Cherrett living in Bedwellty, saying born Bedwas in 1839
in 1881 she was living on their farm in Henllys saying born St Mellons 1840
1891 she was still living on their farm in Henllys but saying bornNewpot 1840

She died in April 1895..

I have seen a family with girl around the right age to be Mary Parry with father William a farmer of 9 acres in Llangibby
but I think that this is a little far from the area she says shes from

any ideas?

In 1891 her husband was born in Poole, Dorset, and in 1871 he was born in Portsmouth.  (Or have I got the wrong censuses?)

Poole and Portsmouth are about 50 miles apart, so I would not trust the birth places too much.

Nope you've got the right family :)
He also even goes on to claim being born in Newport!

that certainly is a good contender isn't it?
a possible reason that the two met and married was that both were working as servants in Llandeyrn at the time

funny how much the spelling has changed of the place as I didn't even recognise it first of all

I took a quick look into that family and it seems by 1861 they've lost the farm and have moved up the valleys where he is a labourer..
also he says that he was born in Bristol which is quite surprising due to the surname but again of course not impossible
