Is this place in Co Meath?
« on: Saturday 24 January 15 13:30 GMT (UK) »
The attached image is the place that was recorded as an Irish ancestor's birthplace; he was tried at Dublin in the early 1800s.

Given this, the place has to be in Ireland and may possibly be somewhere in Co. Meath.  Is it a townland, village, town or something else?  As for the accuracy of the spelling, I suspect it is someone's guess (a phonetic version) of what my ancestor stated.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thank you
Goddles

Just spotted that Josey had already suggested Kilmessan on the other board.  I would be pretty sure that is what it is.  If you accept that the letters in the middle are "-ilmess--" the only place-name I can find with that combination is Kilmessan.

Thank you glensman (& josey),

I had mistakenly thought the first letter was 'R' (based on other words on the page) but I've since searched other pages of the same handwriting and found a word that clearly shows it as 'K'!

Thanks again for your help.  Goddles
