Janet Clucas nee Inglis married to George Joseph Clucas in 1859
« on: Monday 26 January 15 01:34 GMT (UK) »
Hoping someone can help me glean some more information regarding Janet Inglis who was born in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland circa 1834.  I'm hoping to be able to verify her parentage and wondered if that might have been detailed on her marriage record.  Family search have a record of the marriage 09 Apr 1859 in Braddan, Isle of Man and I wondered if anyone has researched the Clucas clan and is privy to this information or if I would need to get a cert.  If so would it have both parents or just the father?

I note that she had a son by the name of Robt Inglis Clucas in 1873 which might be a clue!

With thanks, Sage.

The 1859 marriage on Family Search does list her father as Alex https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XZTF-Z97 which does tie in with an earlier baptism  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTG4-L4V

Kay

Edit -this looks like the family in 1841 living in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire

Alexr Inglis 35
Mary Inglis 30
Janet Inglis 7
Thomas Inglis 5
Peter Inglis 3
Jane Inglis 1

Thanks Kay,

I didn't pick up on that extra bit of detail about her father being Alex.  I did wonder if the family in that census was hers as I hadn't been able to trace her before now.  That's brilliant.  Now I'm left to ponder how on Earth she ended up on the Isle of Man.  :)

Cheers, Sage

Marriage is also available on Imuseum.im!

9th April 1959   at Braddan
Geo Jos Clucas, widower, father John
Janet Inglis, Spinster, father Alex

There won't be a marriage certificate, as Civil Registration on the island did not come into force until 1884 for marriages.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

The marriage record image on Family Search though is just the same as a marriage certificate so although the event was pre-registration all the information that you would find on a marriage certificate is still available on that record ;D

I don't know how your relative ended up in Braddan but may well have been back to family there.
There are a great many Clucas's on the Isle of Man still and my great great grandparents seem to have come from the Braddan area - huge amount of information in the museum at Douglas and very halpful people in the archive section if you need to find out more information. Contact me privately if you think there is a link to our clucas family.
