Bournemouth Lodge
« on: Monday 26 January 15 10:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have a relation who is shown on 1924 and 1926 Electoral Rolls as abode 'Bournemouth Lodge, Bournemouth'.

I have tried an internet search but nothing concrete coming up, does anyone know where or what this was, a hotel maybe?

Thanks

What is the adjoining detail of his entry please? My first thought is that he was possibly living as the attendant at a Masonic Lodge in the town.

Thanks, interesting theory.

He was a Doctor and the actual entry is for another address in Welbeck Street London, but it says in brackets (abode Bournemouth Lodge, Bournemouth).

Just done a quick Google for "The Lodge Bournemouth" So far as i could see nothing readily identifiable. As you say he was a Doctor, then I think it quite likely he was a mason. Have you tried Masonic records, I believe they are available; the historic ones at least.

Could someone actually live permanently in a Masonic Lodge (except possibly a live in caretaker)?
As I read the electoral rolls the address on the alphabetical index are the property owned which entitles them to vote and if that is not where they actually live, then actual abode is in brackets underneath their name.
On example below for 1924 register of Clapham, several members of the Dobbin and Grant families jointly own the Pavilion Picture Theatre, but the Dobbins live in Earlham Grove E7 and the Grants live in Mill Hill.

Can you give the name of the doctor? If old enough to vote in 1924, he has likely passed on by now.

Here he is on 1928 electoral roll. Same street but different number. There doesn't seem to be a number 37 listed in 1828 ???
