Looking for death/burial for Archibald Shearer sometime between 1841 Clackmannan census and 1851. He was born 1772 in Logie, Perth.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Any death registration should be on Scotlands People which is a pay per view site via purchase of credits.  You need to select Old Parish Registers as the death was before 1855

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

A quick search on the free index shows 2 matches to that name between 1841-1851 but not in Clackmannan

Are you sure you have the correct 1841 entry?  That Archibald is shown as 60yrs old so allowing for the 1841 rounding he was born between 1777-1780

Thanks for replies....

I have checked Scotland's People but no luck.  unable to find a record listed.
Quite sure it is correct person in 1841 census. He and wife are listed on one page and his inlaws (Glens) on previous page.  (Thomas Glen married Lillias Shearer in 1843)  Possibly error in age?

Kalann, unfortunately, you may not find any record of the death or burial. Before the start of official registration in Scotland in 1855, only about a third of BMD events were recorded in the Old Parish Regiters...with the deaths and burials being the worst recorded  :-\

This refers in the main to those records in the Old Parish Registers (ie mainly Presbyterian) www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?r=554&1353

Hi Monica,
Thanks for the info.  I have researched this branch on and off for years and they have been a puzzle.  I think one of the reasons is that I believe they were Baptists, so even more difficult to find baptisms and deaths before 1855.  I have been able to find marriages.   Kalann
