birth record
« on: Tuesday 27 January 15 23:51 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody advise me about john baird's birth record. He married in 1846 Isabella proudlock in all saints newcastle upon tyne and his residence was sally port. His occupation was a joiner and his father edward baird was a farmer.  His census records indicate he was born around 1816 in denwick northumberland.  I am not able to find any record of his birth  thank you  watkins4

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

There were no birth certs prior to 1.7.1837 when Civil Registration was introduced - only possible baptismal entries in parish registers

In 1841 he was in lodgings in Alnwick and the 1851 census shows Alnwick as his birthplace.  1861 & 1871 shows Denwick which is just over a mile from Alnwick

Bishops Transcript for All Saints - 6th May 1816.  Top entry on the right hand side looks like it could be the one you're after.

ADDED: Oops, Im going word blind, All Saints is where he married, not where he was born. Apologies.

thankyou carol w.  I have searched the parish records for alnwick and surrounding parishes ,with no success. Just thought maybe there might be a record somewhere else as his father [edward baird] was a farmer    There is a record for a birth of edward baird 0n family search  - dec.15 1779  Lesbury Northumberland  . his father   Robert Baird   watkins4

That birthyear ties in with a burial on 13.5.1829 at St Lawrence Warkworth of an Edward Baird aged 50

Warkworth & Alnwick/Denwick are roughly 7 - 8 miles apart

The original burial entry will be at Northumberland Records Office but I doubt it will give any more info as burial records for that period were very basic.

There is nothing on Family Search for John's baptism but other members may know of other Northumberland online resources

Just a cautionary note - many illegitimate children made up a fathers name when they married so as to appear "respectable".  I'm not saying that is the case here - just be aware of it in your search
