Frederick SEVERNE of Derby
« on: Wednesday 28 January 15 13:46 GMT (UK) »
Frederick SEVERNE b 24 Dec 1828 in Derby.

Regarding his death, Ancestry has a few public trees which refer to his death in 1857 in Sydney, Australia but try as I might I cannot see the underlying source for this. The New South Wales equivalent of our GRO record a Severne death in that year but without a first name. Desperately seeking corroboration ... !

Any help very welcome.

Thanks

If that is him, he went to Australia between 1851 and 1857 as he is on the 1851 census here.

From Register of Passport Applications 1851-1903.

Frederick Severne applied 10th December 1856, passport no: 44079.

EDWARD Severne applied same day, Passport no: 44080.

The register gave no other information.

Thank you so much hanes teulu !

This is perfect corroboration, and ties in well with information kindly provided by the Dringhouses Local History Group - this relates to a brass lectern in the parish church, donated by the severne family, and commemorates Frederick's death on 20th August 1857.

Many thank and best wishes

I googled "king's own stafford militia" and looked at the www.mocavo.co.uk site.
The only mention of Ensign Severn (no "e") is on page 37 - newspaper reports have him as a Lieutenant from May 1856.
