Ivory of Harpenden
« on: Thursday 29 January 15 12:18 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any info on Edward Ivory of Harpenden.

In the 1841 census he is age 35 (i.e. born about 1806). He is married to Maria (born about 1807) nee Munt whom he married in 1838. Their children are George (born 1838), Emma (born 1840) and Anne Maria (born 1842)

He must have died before 1847. Maria remarried to Thomas Rance in 1847.

I have lots on his children, but have no info on Edward's birth or parents. I know the Ivorys were well established in Harpenden and the district but having trouble connecting Edward to any of them. Any help would be great.

Matthew

A copy of his marriage certificate should show the name and occupation of Edward's father; witnesses might be family members. A copy cost £9.25 from GRO:

Probably of little interest re C19th - but in 1940s and 1950s, the Ivory family were farmers with a number of lorries/horse boxes.  Two of the Ivory brothers went to Hardenwick school in Harpenden and I drew in a boxing contest with one of them!
(Hardenwick moved to St Albans before closing)
