Death for Elizabeth(Bessie) Macreadie between 1902 and 1918.
« on: Thursday 29 January 15 13:45 GMT (UK) »
Elizabeth(Bessie) Macreadie d.o.b. 1879 married John Wilkie in Partick in 1902.Her parents were James Marshall Macreadie and Mary nee Adam.
John Wilkie went on to marry my gr.aunt Leah Moore in Kelvin in 1918 it shows that he is a widower.I have been searching for a death for Elizabeth for ages but with no luck so I could do with some help please.

I could also do with help in finding John Wilkie in the 1901 and 1911 census as he seems to be missing .
His occupation in 1902 was professional footballer and in 1918 dock labourer.

John died in 1922 in Kelvin.

thank you

Hi Skippy,
Just a thought....Do you know for what team/s John played Football?
Is there a chance he played in England?
I have an ancestor - Scottish born and bred - who played professionally for English teams during late 19th and early 20th century. Obviously he and his wife lived in England and had children there although he moved back to Scotland to finish his playing career and died ( railway worker on death cert) there in the 40s.
Maybe worth looking English Censuses , if you haven't already done so.
Looby :)

Hi Looby,
Thanks for replying.
I have googled a John Wilkie and think I have found my John played for Partick Thistle between 1894/5 then went to Blackburn 1896/8 but then I have lost him, but I am only assuming this is my John can't be 100% sure .
I have looked on the 1901 and 1911for Scotland and England but still no sign of him.

Elizabeth(Bessie) is on the 1901 with her brother Alfred living in Norse road, Renfrew.

Hi Skippy and Looby  :)

Skippy, it might help to just add to this post of yours some further details on John Wilkie re his ancestry. You mention he showed as a widower in his marriage to your great aunt, Leah Moore in 1918. What was his birth year and parents' details?

Sometimes the detail can help in finding further info.

Hello,

New to this fantastic site. Currently researching John Wilkie and looking for more information about this football player. Fantastic amount of information on this page. For those of you who are unaware, John Wilkie was a footballer in one of Rangers' greatest ever teams. Could you "Skippy" contact me via PM? I'd like to find out more about him. Cheers.
