Where did Samuel Hayne go?

Following on from this post I raised last year http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=674109.msg5191110#msg5191110 regarding my ancestor Samuel Sanderson Haynes whereabouts, I have an update which places this query in the Immigrants & Emigrants category.

To recap Samuel was born in 1842 at Earl Colne, Essex. Like his brothers, he trained to be a tailor. He married his wife in 1862 and five children, the last born in late 1871.

In his mothers will made in 1877, she states:

"...provided however if my son Samuel Sanderson shall not return to England and present himself to one of my executors within twelve months after my decease...."

This would explain why I haven't been able to trace Samuel in England during the 1870's. With this information, I now know that he would have left England between 1871 (when his wife saw him last) and 1877 when his mother made her will. The will doesn't indicate where Samuel was living at this time.

Can any help me find where Samuel moved to after deserting his family?
