Ann/Nancy Harry = George Gummow
« on: Friday 30 January 15 06:09 GMT (UK) »
My Ann Harry bpt 25 March 1802 d/o William Harry and Isabel Trethewy of St Stephen in Brannel , is thought to have married George Gummow/Gummough 5 Aug 1822.
I think there may have been three children: John 1822 ,  Richard 1823 and Thomas c1836.

Ann Gummow was living with her sons Richard and Thomas at Terras in 1851. She died 1856.

I am trying to discover what became of George Gummow.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks for your help
I think Nancy/Ann Gommow was living with her son Richard and his wife Mary also another son Thomas bC1836 , at Terras according to 1851 Census . I need confirmation that this is her.
Also can't find Thomas.Is he s/o Nancy/Ann ?

I am still looking for George Gummow but seems likely he died Probus 19 Oct 1828 aged 53.
Nancy/Ann looks to have died Dec Qtr 1856 and buried 20 Nov 1856 aged 53.

This appears to be George bpt 24 May 1775 Ladock. I am assuming it is the same person.

With thanks.

Could Richard have fathered Thomas at 13 ?

The column on the census form is headed "Relation to Head of Family", and he is entered as "Son"?
Stranger things have happened! ;D

However, I can't see a baptism for Thomas Gummow/Gummoe?

Aha!
FreeBMD shows:
December qtr 1839
Redruth district     vol 9, page 250

Gummow, Thomas

Thomas on the 1851 census was 13 years old - so born c1838?

Hi there.  George Gummow was my husbands great great grand father.  George Gummow son John Gummow married Ellen lobb nicholls 1868 (marriage certificate has George as father). John Gummow son was Norman gummow who is my father in laws father.  I am busy doing my family history so if I come across any "hard evidence" I will forward it on.

Trudieg - you definitely have the wrong George!

'Your' John was bc.1844 St. Stephens, son of a George and Elizabeth.

This George is shown on 1851 census as bc.1813 St. Colomb Major and according to FreeReg this must be his baptism:

George Gammow bp.11/1/1815 St. Colomb Major, son of John (labourer) and Joanna.

George married Elizabeth Strongman 4/4/1840 St. Colomb Major (he son of John, she dau. of a John).
