JenB, I meant 'definitely Manley in the PR', which is clearer. The BT could easily be Marley, as you said.  :)

London is complicated!

The City of London, and some of those bits of London that used to be in Middlesex, Surrey, Kent and Essex have their parish records digitised, and held, at the London Metropolitan Archives.
Mostly, these are on Ancestry.

The City of Westminster has it's own archives! ::) And it's parish registers are on FindMyPast.

Bishop's Transcripts belong to the relevant diocese - and these can be found at LMA, and Ancestry.

Easy, huh?!?! ;D

Yes, but the only place you can see it is FindMyPast, which is a pay/subscription site, so you'll need to purchase a few credits.

I'm so glad you glad you said it's complicated because I was starting to think I'm rubbish.! I thought ancestry, find my past etc were all the same ... I have a steep learning curve ahead .!

Thank you 👍

I think I might have followed the crowd and been looking at the wrong record.

Looking closer at the census records the place of birth states - Bermondsey (1851) & Southwark (1861). There is a baptism record (17/09/1809) for Edward Manley born 06/11/1805 in Bermondsey, Southwark to Hannah & Edward Manley.

Thanks for the direction to find my past..!!! 😊

Just got to get my head round the microfilm stuff

Thanks all...!!! 😊☺️

(St James Westminster, 1805)
Dec. 26th Edward, B(ase) B(orn) Son of Hannah Manley & Thomas Wheeler (born) 6 Nov.

There is a baptism record (17/09/1809) for Edward Manley born 06/11/1805 in Bermondsey, Southwark to Hannah & Edward Manley.

It is curious that the Edward MANLEY baptised in Bermondsey in 1809 was born on the same day in 1805 as the base-born Edward MANLEY baptised at St James Westminster in 1805. Also that the mother of both was named Hannah.

Is there any sign of the Westminster one in any other records, or could they be the same person?
