Captain Charles Pigg -- where is his diary?
« on: Friday 30 January 15 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Charles Herbert Pigg became a captain in WW1 and later a colonel. He was born in Cambridge in 1887 and his father was a rector. He was an assistant master at Cheltenham College before WW1. He married Frances Manwaring in 1915.
In 1949-50 three extracts from his diary describing his service with the 2nd Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment were published in the regimental magazine. The Mercian Museum would dearly like to know where the diary is now, as would I, as I am researching the life of someone who served with Pigg and knew him well. It's unlikely I suppose that RootsChat can succeed where the Museum has so far failed -- but I have great faith in this forum! If anyone knows anything about Pigg's descendants or the diary itself, or can suggest any way that I can move forward with this enquiry, please let me know. You are welcome to send a PM if you prefer.

I've just found the following thread which says "The Regimental Archives at Norton Barracks, Worcester have his diary".

Hope this helps!

Hi Sacha

Sadly what the regimental museum has is an article published in 1949 which included extracts from his diary. I would dearly like to see the rest of it as he knew my subject (a man called Tom Wilmot) well. The museum has made strenuous efforts to trace Charles Pigg's descendants and I thought I'd found them - but in vain. Will PM you later today.
