This isn't much help in finding your man in Ireland or why he was there :-\ however, in case you haven't seen it, there is an Add in the Windsor & Eaton Express, 29 May 1824 stating he has commenced business in what was the premises of Mr Alloway, Butcher, as a Carpenter, Builder & Undertaker. In the following years he is also advertising as a Letting Agent so he must have had quite a business set up. I'm amazed he didn't leave a Will. :o

Not having much luck discovering who his children were are we. :( Do you think the Henrietta christened 1822 in St Marylebone could be Richard & Sarah's daughter, if so could she be the Henrietta Hayter in the 1861 aged 35, unmarried, living in Old Windsor with a son Edwin aged 8 born New Zealand. ??? Josey, take a look at the Will of James Samuel (as indexed on Ancestry) HAYLER, 18th Feb 1850 Sunninghill.

He certainly mentions Henrietta Sarah of Sunninghill Berks, amongst others. :)

Thanks so much allibaker, that's definitely 'my' Richard & Sarah as I have their death notices, now is it reasonable to presume that James Samuel was a son as he was buried with them? He could be the 20 yr old on the almost illegible 1841 census.

Good finds, Maddie, so we are getting Richard & Sarah back to England earlier - by 1824. I downloaded the will, thanks.

I found this too
Marriages Jun 1847
ATTERBURY    Ann Elizabeth        St. Geo. Han. Sq    1   40
FOWLER    John        St Geo Han Sqr    1   40
Hayter    Hannah Ellen        St Geo Han Sqr    1   40
Jenkins    Edward        St Geo Han Sqr    1   40
Palmer    Phillidelphia        St George Hanover Square    1   40
Smart    John Franklin        St George Hanover Square    1   40
TONGUE    Thomas        St Geo Han Sq    1   40
WHITE    Sophia        St Geo Han Sqr    1   40

So it looks like the John Franklin Smart, trustee in the will, married James' sister Hannah Ellen who gets one of the 1/5 shares?

There's also a Catherine Hayter & a Richard ?? [can't read middle name] Hayter of Sunninghill who get other 1/5s

EDIT: Forgot to mention the Henrietta with son Edwin. Another good find. How did she get there & back to New Zealand in those years? In 1891, Edwin is Edwin Richd J Hayter....named after grandad?

Yes, I did!!
Jun 1847 St George Hanover Square    1   40
They had a son William James baptised in Stepney in 1849, but he must have died  - not on censuses. They moved around a bit 1851 presumably (as in 1850 will) Limehouse, 1861 Brighton, 1871 not found, 1881, 1891 Westbury on Trym, no children, both died in 1890s.

I also worked out the name of the legatee in James' will - it's Richard Ansell Hayter. Where is he on the censuses?
EDIT : see next reply! - he appears to be in New Zealand.

So I surmise [no proof] Richard & Sarah's children were:
James Samuel
Henrietta Sarah
Hannah Ellen
Richard Ansell
maybe a George [see reply #4]
possibly Catherine [where is she on the 1851 census?] This is probably her marriage
Marriages Mar 1853
DERIAZ    Jaques Alphonse        St Geo. H S.    1a   289
HAYTER    Catherine        St Geo H S    1a   289
RELLER    Henrietta        St Geo H S.    1a   289
TURBERVILLE    William        St Geo. H. Sq.    1a   289
The certificate would confirm her father....bit short of funds right now...

A 23 yr old niece Kate Turberville is living with John & Hannah Smart in 1881 so Catherine must have married William Turberville. In 1861 Catherine shows as age 41 born Sunninghill [Sunny Hill on ancestry]. Their son aged 6 was born in Ireland - I can't keep up with this family, they travelled so much  :o William was a licensed victualler.

I'd love to find the 1851 census for 15 Mercers Terrace, Salmon Lane, Limehouse!!

I did find a James Hayter aged 20 born Ireland with a Tucker family in Hampstead HO107/674/9/11.

Great job :D that confirms all I have found so far so wont repeat it. ;)

Still looking for Richard A & I can't see Henrietta in the 1851 either. Wondering now did they both go to New Zealand but Henrietta returned with her son. :-\

Talking of Edwin, I see him in the 1891 with wife Helena born Liverpool but is that also them in the 1881 in Lambeth under the name of Wheeler. :o

Thanks for all the remarkable help I've been given - so far....

I've been looking at immigration/emigration records with no success. Now my brain aches [body aches too from a zumba session this evening] so I'm off for an early night. No doubt I'll wake up with a lightbulb moment at 3 am...
