That's an interesting find, especially with Thomas Lythgoe shown as a boarder, some serious digging around needed!

Your right Shirl  ::)

1851 census has James, Elizabeth and Peter at the same address as 1861
In the house next door is the Allen Family and living with them is Margaret Hill mother b1775 Wigan
and Mary Gleave Granddaughter born 1851. ???

Hi Everyone
Thanks for all the replies.
Milliepede, Peter's occupation in 1881 is general labourer, in 1891 he is under-foreman, then in 1901 & 1911 foreman in the soapworks (this would be Crosfields in Warrington).
rolnora - the 1851 & 1861 Census are interesting, there appears to be some connection there with the family, and the baptism for Peter 7 April 1870 in Leigh sounds right, but are the two families the same?
hanes teulu & shirl100, the 1871 census with Peter & Ruth and possible James aged 0 or 6mths sounds right, and this could be my missing child. I'll have a look for deaths of a James Lythgoe before 1881.
Still got to make the links with the Hills ??? As you say shirl, the plot does indeed thicken!!

Found! Death of a James Lythgoe Q1 1872 Warrington, so think this must be my missing child of Ruth and Peter. The name fits too I suppose, being Peter's father's name and being their firstborn. Will 'assume' correct for now, can always send for cert later.

hanes teulu & shirl, please can you tell me where to find the 1971 Census for Peter & Ruth? I think I've looked everywhere I know ( ???) but haven't been able to find it.
I'm taking advantage of Ancestry's free weekend to try and find out more about Peter and his change of surname :D

Hi again

1871 Census - reference RG10  3903  folio 51 page 12, after ages looking for it on ancestry try searching for the family above (which I don't think has been transcribed correctly either!). Ancestry shows Charles Wilheete b abt 1833 Warrington (Warwickshire) spouse shown as Esth ( but I reckon it's Sarah!)

Good luck with that!
