This is also my family, but I have made no progress back in time.

The first name Popham could be a surname back in the family history. I did try, but no clues.

This link for bastardy examinations etc. might help for the Cartwright family.

Hi Alberbury,

I popped across to Shropshire archives to take a look at

Churchwardens and Overseers of Shrewsbury St. Alkmund acknowledge that Morgan Cartwright and wife Sarah are legally settled in that parish

http://search.shropshirehistory.org.uk/collections/getrecord/CCA_XP241_L_8_31/

An interesting document to see but not one that yields any further information.

I was also looking at the the account books of the Emanuel Methodist church which may be of interest to you if you are related to the William Wellings descendant of the above.

Hope this is of help,

Donna

Have looked again through my notes.
I am not so confident at getting back my Cartwright line to Ellesmere.

The Morgan Cartwright who is buried in Duddleston on 25 September 1738 is my 8x Great Grandfather.

Popham who was baptised in Ellesmere on April 8th 1725 appears in the Diocese of Chester Bishop's Transcripts.

Her marriage appears in the copy of the Audlem Register given at the visitation at Middlewich on May 2nd 1750.

It states she married in Audlem on May 15th 1749 by Banns to John Peak. Popham was buried in Audlem on May 15th 1772

I am descended from Morgan's son Richard. Like you I am stumped by Susanna(h) Stumper.
