« on: Monday 02 February 15 16:48 GMT (UK) »
Friends, I note probate administrations were taking place in Llandudno c1945.  is there a reason for this please; I'm thinking it was something to do with the war?  any clarification most appreciated.  thank you  Frankray.

Yes you are right it was due to the war. The main Probate department was evacuated up to Llandudno 1940 and returned to Somerset House 1946.

Thinking ahead it could have been left in Llandudno. No reason for it to have been specifically in London. Likewise with crowded commuter trains and exorbitant season ticket prices. Build offices nearer the people and let London and the railways wilt.

The probate department was 1 of several including the Inland Revenue that were evacuated.

1700 staff went as well and by 1946 not all had returned back to london.
