Carlow Emigration Patterns

Hello Everyone,
I am interested in finding out about which emigration patterns were prevalent during the 1860's. Did most of the emigrant ships leave Liverpool?  I have found an index to a marriage record which I have ordered from the GRO on familysearch. Patrick McDonald and Ann Bryan (the names of my gr, gr grandparents, along with 2 other names, of course!) are on the page. I'm cautiously optimistic that I may have found out where they married. They ended up settling in Fall River, MA, where I don't find a marriage cert. The record I found has the marriage taking place in West Derby, Lancashire, which I believe is the county which contained Liverpool at that time. I'm eager to find out if there may have been a reason they would marry in England, if in fact, they did

They married 13.8.1865 at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Liverpool.  The entry actually shows his surname as McDonnell - father was Thomas

The entry is in Latin and her father was "Joannis"

Witnesses were Joanne Roney and Anna Burgin

Patrick is shown as "of Kirkdale" and Ann of "West Derby" - both are Liverpool districts

Both father's names are the same ones I have. May I ask, is your info from the church record? I ask because the civil index has name as McDonald. I believe they lived in Raheen and Rathanna, Kiltennell, Carlow.
By"of Kirkdale" and "of West Derby" would you think it safe to assume that they both relocated to Lancashire and lived in separate districts until marriage?
I cannot thank you enough for this lead. What a find!

Yes - the information is from the original parish record.  The priest may have entered the wrong surname.  The districts given would relate to where they were living at the time of marriage.

McDonald and McDonnell are used interchangeably so the priest was merely recording a variation of McDonald. Both Patrick and Ann might have been living in England for a while before marriage or just for a short while, probably impossible to say for sure.
