Hello, I know it is several months since your post re. Ashcroft Place but I have only just read it.  My mother's family lived in 1 Ashcroft place from approximately 1920 to the late 1960's.  All the family members, there were 8 children have very happy memories of living there.  If you have any photos of Ashcroft I would be really keen to get copies.

Hi Alwyn,
Margymore kindly sent over a few photographs, but only one was of the street. It sadly shows the half the houses ( 4 of 8 ) demolished. In fact I would like to know from the photograph what the house number was at the end of the terrace (1 or 8 ). Send me a p.m with your email and I'll post it over tomorrow ......Best

Lived near Ashcroft Place in 1960s and 70's before it was redeveloped.  There were 8 houses on a one sided terrace next to original Annies's Bar. I saw a list of residents of Ashcroft Place on the Derry Journal online a few weeks ago (August 2015) where it listed every street in Derry in 1955 and the main householder.  That should help you.

Hi, my mother And father Isobel and George Wolfenden, hosted a young English couple who where expecting a baby at the start of WW2, Mr and Mrs Levitt ?
Who where looking for accommodation which was in short supply. My father took them in. The baby was born in the front room. They stayed for approx 3 months ?
They eventually went back to England.
Regards
Hilda Browne (nee Wolfenden, now living in Australia)

1957 list for Ashcroft Place (off Strabane Old Road)- shows 8 houses- George Wolfenden at #4

Hi, Scrolling through a list of old emails and one from Rootschat caught my eye, so I thought I'll take a look to see if there were any old posts?
Thanks to all the replies and especially Hilda Browne whose post was a gem. Telephoned mum (102 years old) today and she told  me she was nearly two days in labour so she hadn't forgotten! Sis went over to N.I/Ireland for a holiday last year to see if she could find any more info. but no joy.
Truly amazing that people come to this site and by chance a post gets picked up.well done Rootschat and thanks again Hilda.

p.s. Formerly Blackeyes had to re-register.
