Please help!! I want to know who lived at no 4 Florence Street, Hitchin in May 1939 or whether it was a boarding house/hotel ?
My gt gt aunt went there from her ship docking from Canada and I need to know why?

Looking at it on street view it appears to be a very small terraced house  ;)

Really need someone to look at directories from 1939 and find out who lived there.
The plot thickens ???

You may not get directories around that time due to WW2  :-\

Good point. Ellen the gt gt aunt was from Yorkshire and husband Charles was from Isle of Skye so why Hitchin? It's all a bit odd as somewhere there is an adopted baby as well and a dead one too!

Hello - I couldn't find an immediate pre-war directory, but in both 1948 and 1952 there is a G. Burton listed at 4 Florence Street in the Hitchin Directory produced by Letchworth Printers Ltd.
Don't know if that helps or not.
