Just to put a photo of them to refresh memories perhaps:

A pity it doesn't give an indication of the age of these.

This site mentions there being, "A tiny sweet shop in Northgate Terrace", scroll down to the section on Village Life.

You might obtain an idea of their age from census returns.

i have found a Thomas Roberts,listed as a shop keeper,on that row,on the 1851 census,,that may have been the sweet shop ?

I found that entry on the 1851 census and by the look of it, there were 7 cottages in Northgate Street at that time. Numbers shown are 8,9,10,11,12, 13 and 14.

I wondered if number 9 might be a post office of some sort as the Head of the household is Robert Jones, occupation: Sexton Ysceifiog, while his wife, Susannah Jones is shown as Post woman.

The Fox Inn must have been neighbouring on Northgate Terrace judging by the census entries.

I am trying to find people there in 1841.

Jo.
