Im looking to find out where Ewen Stewart was in 1861 census , it states he was living in barracks employed as a shepherd in Croy and Dalcross , Inverness . Ive never heard of that place . i know his wife was in Tomnahurih Street Inverness in the census.

He could have been staying at the farm, because the census would have been taken during lambing season

I agree.  The barracks is listed as a Servants Barracks with other inhabitants including  ploughmen and a herdman.

Edit - The adjacent farm is Welltown Of Wester Leys

It says on the census that he is living in Servants Barracks, in Western terms, this would be the Bunk House.

No. I think that the barracks (bunkhouse) would have been on the farm.
