herriot family

I have been in contact with  Roots Chat recently regarding the Herriot family. I have had contact with someone through Genes, and we are at logger heads with this family.

I have John Herriot married to May Aitchison, born 1786 married May 1808, East Lothian, they had John born 1809 and he died 28/6/1860, he was a ploughman but doesn't say who is wife was, his son John was the witness.

The person who I have had contact with has a John Herriot married to Elizabeth Kerr  dom 15/11/1857 which is his 2nd wife the 1st being Ann Richardson dom 22/5/1825, Ann died 1849. But John's parents names on the certificate were John Herriot and Ann Souness, the witness was George Pryde his son in law. I have John and Ann's daughter married to a George Pryde.

My John's occupation was a ploughman, but my contact has John's occupation as Grocer/Carter.

Can someone throw any light on this. I am certain I am correct.

FreeREG has the 1825 Marriage you mention, both of Salton Parish
2 Childrens Baptisms are there also in Salton, Fathers Occp Ploughman;
John 1826/Robert 1845

Going by the 1816 Census for John H (Grocer) living in Fife he is born c 1814 Prestopans, his Brother Robert born c 1819 same place;
This is them I am pretty sure;
