Hi!
I have a great, great grandfather that appears to be a mystery... He is believed to have been born about 1844, this we have worked out from marriage and birth certificates of his children. All but one of these certificates, state that he is known as John McLaren, however, there is one that states is name is John Alex McLaren. On the birth certificate of one of his daughters it states that he was born on Stirlingshire, Scotland. At some stage he has emigrated to Australia, where he married Mary Ann Dugan. They went on to have a number of children and that's as far as we get. We are unable to find his birth certificate as we have no confirmation on his birth date, nor do we have a death certificate as we have no idea where he ended up.
It is believed that his father's name was John, he may have possibly had a sister named Anne. It is believed that his father had something to do with Clydes Engineering ( near Edinburgh?). It is also been mentioned through family members from different branches of the family, unknown to each other, that about the late 1920's early 1930's an advert was placed in Newspapers in Australia, searching for a John McLaren possibly to settle inheritance?)
I am hoping someone has a John Mcleod in their family that sounds like our John.
I look forward to any assistance
Thank you, in anticipation!
