John Bryan & Catherine Doyle
« on: Wednesday 11 February 15 21:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had info pertaining to 2 Bryan (Brien) Families. Both couples are named John Bryan and Catherine (Doyle). A search on rootsireland brings up 2 marriages, one in Leighlibridge, and one in Borris. However, all the children of both couples (it appears) are born in Borris, specifically, Rahana and Knockroe.
My thinking is that the couple married in Leighlinbridge, in 1831 (her address is given as Bilboa) is the family found in Rahana, and the couple with no address on marriage cert from 1839 (just Borris parish) is the one in Knockroe. All the Knockroe baptisms occur from 1840 to 1846.
I also found a Michael O'Brien in Fall River, a mason, married Sarah McDonald, whose naturalization record lists Carlow as place of birth. I was happy to find him and Sarah McDonald on rootsireland records as parents to daughter Anne (who is with him in1880 census).  He is living at that time on the same street as my gr-gr grandparents Patrick MacDonald and Ann (O'Brien). There is also a Thomas Doyle with wife Maria living on the same street.
I believe Michael O'Brien must be Anne's brother. I find an Anne Bryan born 1839 to the Rahana Bryans mentioned above.
Any info would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks!

Steve

I have an ancestor by the name Catharine O'Brien, who has listed John Brien and Catharine Doyle as her parents (see her attached marriage certificate). I have no idea if there's any chance of relation to your Bryan (is Bryan/O'brien used interchangeably?) and the place is not completely accurate. In fact, I don't quite know if she's born in Carlow; she has stated "Mount Neal, County C[something]", and I have found variants of Mount Neill and Mount Neal in Carlow. Long shot, I know... She would have been born around 1845

I think this looks good. I have a Catherine born 1846, sister of my Anne. Mt Leinster could easily have been known as Mt Neil, as the Neil surname was very prevalent in this area. I will pm you soon. Bryan, Brien, O'Brien, etc. All interchagable.
Thanks!
