Cornthwaites of Beetham pre 1800s
« on: Thursday 12 February 15 18:11 GMT (UK) »
I've found a link to a distant gr. mother who married John Wearing 1819 in Heversham.  She was Jennet/Janet/Jane Cornthwaite, daughter of Edward and Ann Cornthwaite.  I have all of her information, but no certificates for her BMD, including her appearances on the censuses and her children.  I'm interested in any information concerning her ancestors and am willing to share the information I have on her and her family.  I'm across the pond, so trips to the record offices are out of the question.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your interest.

I'm looking for ancestors.  Any information on Edward Cornthwaite and his ancestors.  My tie-in is through Jennet, his daughter.

Information on Jennet that I have:
Her marriage (11 Oct 1819) to John Wearing on familysearch
Her census records from 1841 to 1881 (copies of each record)
Her death quarter--Apr-Jun 1890 from FreeBMD (I don't have the certificate)
I have her 12 children and some information on each of them (from England Births from familysearch and census records)

Children born to Edward and Ann in Beetham:
John 1789
William 1791
Jacob 1794
Robert 1800
Jennett 1803

On one of the baptisms it mentions:
Paternal Grandfather John Cornthwaite
Maternal Grandfather William Pearson

So now we know the names of Edward and Ann's fathers

That's great, Catfordcrooner.  Is that on the familysearch website?

The William Pearson of Beetham mentioned above (ie father of Ann who married Edward Cornthwaite) is my direct ancestor.  Some of my tree is on Ancestry - have a look.

Thank you both.  I've been able to cull a bit of information from familysearch and will head over to the library to check out ancestry when the weather clears a bit.

Frian, do you have a date of death for Ann?  I've found 2 possiblilities, 1844 and 1851.  I'm leaning toward the 1844 as she is living with her son Jacob and is 80.  The database that I can access for UK census records also has an Ann Cornthwaite, 93, in Westmorland in 1851.  I was trying to check her out in 1841, but they have messed up the index/image and the Ann Cornthwaite living with Jacob is on both images.

Thanks again to you both for both your interest and information provided.
