« on: Thursday 12 February 15 18:30 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone give me advise on how to find records for my ancestors who left Scotland by ship I assume to go to Pennsylvania? They left in 1887. Thanks 😊

Why do you assume Pennsylvania? Many Scottish steel workers emigrated there of course but do you know of a connection?

Hi sparkley you could try www.familysearch or Ancestry or you could post some names and we might be able to help  :)

Nearest I could see was a New York Passenger List - John McKeever born 1854 Ireland and 25 years - Labourer - Departed Glasgow to New York  on the Bolivia arriving 8 Dec 1879.

Of course he could have gone via Philadelphia or any other port, even thru Canada because it was cheaper.

The information given in census records is only as good as the informant giving it.  Its quite common for ages, dates of immigration etc to be incorrect. There is very little information on earlier passenger lists which would positively identify if it was or wasn't your John McKeever. So don't presume 1887 is definitely correct.

Another site we often use is http://www.castlegarden.org/
