Moreton in Marsh Bishops Transcripts 1607-1642 - Collett and Fre(e)bury
« on: Thursday 12 February 15 19:10 GMT (UK) »
Posting a fresh lookup as requested on a different thread, I'd be interested in any entries relating to the surname Collet(t) from them.

BumbleB's post from a different thread suggests there won't be many years anyway. :-\

Lots of gaps, according to TNA  (Mr Google - Bishops transcripts Moreton in Marsh at Gloucestershire Archives - BTs cover - 1607, 1621-22, 1626, 1628, 1637, ?1638 and 1640.

As the PRs are now on ancestry, but don't start until 1643, I can amuse myself trawling through again but I think I've exhausted all the post 1643 entries already. ;D

PS. Just in case anyone suggest it, I'm already aware of the http://www.collettfamilyhistory.net/ website but Brian Collett didn't have any information on the family when I contacted him a few years back and there remains nothing on my M in M line even though I did make him aware that one of the Stow on the Wold families originated from there.  Unfortunately Colllet(t) is rather a common name in Gloucestershire ...

Hi,
Okay, I've got your lookup request.
St David, Moreton-in-Marsh, PRs.
The BTs are as listed by BumbleB and are available on Film (Ref: MF 578). There are also records on Microfiche (Ref: PFC 221 IN 1/1 1) and a further Film (Ref: PMF 221).
Fingers crossed I'll find something.
Will get back to you on Saturday.
Victor

Hi Victor

Could I add the name F(f)re(e)bury/F(f)re(e)burie and any slightly different variation to Collet please?

They were in Evenlode but there are a lot of marriages but few baptisms so I wonder if they may also have been in surrounding parishes.

Many thanks.

Nicola

Hi Nicola,
Source: Glos Archives (GA) MF 578, BTs, Moreton-in-Marsh
The BTs are VERY hard to read, in fact year 1607 was virtually unreadable. I then moved forward to 1621. Again, the film was hard to read, but I did find this entry and with the help of a GA member of staff found the following:-
1621 - Wyllyam COLLETT & Mary ? were married XXth August.
Quite frankly, on the advice of the GA staff I printed off, on A3, a copy of this page. I will contact you further via pm with my proposals for the outstanding years.

Thanks Victor, I've replied to your PM.  I gather that GA still have the same film readers as they did when I was last there in 2010?  If yes, I can understand the issues unfortunately. :-X
