Hi there everyone,

I would be very grateful if someone could please look to see if there is a baptism record at either Gorefield or Leverington for Thomas Scrimshaw Godfrey born 1863.

I have a suspicion he is the illegitimate son of a Marshall Godfrey (yes, that's a female) but am curious if there are any clues as to the Scrimshaw middle name (he married someone whose mother was a Scrimshaw).

Perhaps his middle name was a less than subtle hint as to who his father was.

That was a quite normal practice at that time. I have Scrimshaw in my tree at Wainfleet Lincs, but my father was brought up in Gorefield 40 years later.
