Samuel Cornick's first marriage circa 1810-12 possibly around St. Austell
« on: Friday 13 February 15 17:30 GMT (UK) »
I am researching a Cornick family and have a Samuel Cornick (b. circa 1791) who married a Mary Balsom on 8 Jun 1816 in St. Austell - both he and his bride had been married before - can anybody help me find their first marriages?

1841 shows them both aged 50 so that would mean they were both married, widowed and re-married by the time they were approx 25 - 29 yrs old.  (They could both have been up to 4yrs older given the rounding down of ages in the 1841 census)

Does the 1816 marriage entry specifically show them as widow and widower?

So the timescale would be roughly 1805-1815 but nothing showing on Family Search

Although he  and Mary married in St Austell - any previous marriages could have been elsewhere

Please see link to 1816 marriage which states Samuel was a widower and Mary a widow.

the opc database has baptisms for children to Samuel & Mary after 1816. Also showing are 3 baptisms to Samuel & Elizabeth
William bp 17 Oct 1802
Betsey bp 26 Dec 1805
John bp 2 July 1809

William's baptism has been transcribed as Corrick, looks more like Cornick to me

This suggests that the ages on the 1841 may not be correct.

was having another look for Samuel & spotted more baptisms to the first marriage
Jane bp 17 June 1804 transcribed as Carnick
Samuel bp 13 Sept 1807 also transcribed as Carnick
and possibly
Edward bp 24 Jan 1811 transcribed as McCormick

Forgot to mention in earlier post that all baptisms were in Holy Trinity, St Austell. There's a burial on FreeReg at the same church for Samuel Cornick of Carvath 28 Feb 1859 aged 82. So he should be on the 1851 census if that's the correct man.

1851 census
Carvath, St Austell HO107/1907 folio 279 pg 29
Samuel Kernick head mar 73 gardener b. St Cleer
Mary wife 74 b. St Antony in Roseland
Mary Ann daughter unm 26 dressmaker b. St Austell
Louisa grand dau 2 b. Jersey

so that puts his date of birth earlier but still haven't spotted his first marriage.

there's a marriage in St Ive, not far from birthplace in St Cleer, in 1799 of Samuel Kernick & Elizabeth Cory.
