Farm in Magharafelt, Mahara, County Armagh owned by Charles Patrick Heron
« on: Sunday 15 February 15 15:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am looking for any information about the Heron family who lived  in Magharafelt, Mahara, in a farm owned by Charles Patrick Heron, around 1900s.  He had eight children 7 sons and one daughter.  The children attended Lesnamuck school, one of the sons was called Patrick Joseph Heron born, 12 September 1930.

I can't find any such place in Co. Armagh- could this possibly be Magherafelt or Maghera (pronoiunced Ma-her-a) in Co. Londonderry. This is a Lisnamuck townland in Maghera Parish (Magherafelt Poor Law Union/registration district).
See here to find townland, etc. in Ireland- http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/

In the 1901 census Lisnamuck townland comes under Carnamoney D.E.D. and if you search for her* with Carnamoney as the D.E.D. (and no other details) there are Herons in the area. One Charles Heron but only 11 years old.

same family in 1911 except that Charles Heron is age 24-

This is possibly the same Peter Heron in 1901 and 1911 census-
Probate of the Will of Peter Heron late of Brackaghreilly County Londonderry Farmer who died 5 October 1913 granted at Londonderry to Thomas Convery Farmer.

and possibly a relative still there many years later-
Heron, Bridget of Brackaghreilly Maghera county Londonderry spinster died 13 January 1961 at The Mid-Ulster Hospital Magherafelt county Londonderry Probate Londonderry 2 October to James Glass carpenter and Andy Convery (rector) junior farmer. Effects £212 5s.

As well as those 2 Wills PRONI has the Valuation Revision Books which start from the printed version of Griffith's Valuation and continue until 1929 for Brackareilly townland.
http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives/val12b.htm
In the last book a Pat Heron is at 19a from about 1927.
In the book before that Peter Heron is at 10a and in the next book name is changed to Margaret Heron.
There might be other information to be found in the books but I just took a quick look.

Hi,
Rather oddly I can find civil records of  two marriages which I think are the same people. The marriages took place in Draperstown Roman Catholic Church which is in the District of Magherafelt and both occurred on 24 Dec 1889.
Charles Heron to Bridget McNAME
Charlie Heron to Catherine McNamee.
