Shefford parish records
« on: Sunday 15 February 15 16:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Please could anyone with access to the Shefford Parish records help with this query ?

John Wright born 1801c Shefford, Bedfordshire
married Unknown and had the following children

Martha 1824 Shefford, Bedfordshire
Maria 1832 Shefford, Bedfordshire
Elizabeth 1842 Shefford, Bedfordshire
Samuel 1844 Shefford, Bedfordshire
John 1847 Shefford, Bedfordshire
Edward 1849  Shefford, Bedfordshire

I suspect given the gaps there are additional Children

This information taken from the 1851 census

I cant track the family in the 1841 which would hopefully give a wife's name, given that there were children born up to 1849

Please if anyone can provide and additional baptism /marriage information I would much appreciate any help

Regards Judi

Shefford was a township in the parish of Campton and wasn't, at that time, a parish in its own right. The IGI at www.familysearch.org has a baptism in Campton on 6 Jan 1801, parents John and Sarah.

Unfortunately Campton registers after 1812 aren't on the IGI, BVRI, FindMyPast or Freereg, so you need to check the PR microfilm either at Bedford Archives or at your nearest LDS Family History Centre for baptisms and marriages.

Rather than a gap between children I suspect there may have been a gap between  wives:

1841 HO107/3/3 folio 20 page 34
Back Lane, Shefford
John Wright 39 ?Bricklayer?
Martha Wright 17
Maria Wright 10

There's a marriage of John Wright in Biggleswade registration district in 1842 which might be him. One of the other parties on the page is Mary Jones, and there's a Mary Wright age 41 buried in Campton in 1850. There's also a Martha Wright age 37 buried in Campton in 1839.  Pure speculation of course.  An online tree, on which I would never rely, shows the marriage as being on 20 May 1823 at Shefford to Martha Stanbridge. A Martha Stonbridge was baptised at Campton on  20 Apr 1803 daughter of Henry and Mary. You need to check the parish register to see if any of the above stacks up.

Your sense of humour doesn't improve John!

I had a feeling that you'd be heading in the general direction of the archives to check this one out.

Talking of gaps between children, the gap between Sarah born early Feb 1828 and Kate born 1 Dec 1828 is just about as small as is physically possible.
