New Brighton Tower football club
« on: Sunday 15 February 15 18:41 GMT (UK) »
I am attempting to write a short history of New Brighton Tower football club containing a full record of all their matches (both first team and reserves) and to include as much information about the players as I am able to find.  I would be very interested to hear from anyone whose ancestor had any connection with the club or who could otherwise help me with information that may not be available through libraries or archives.

I was aware of these sites and there are others. But they do not include NBT's Lancashire League and FA Cup matches and the many other local competitions in which they competed. The players listed in the Wikipedia site are only a small number of those who played for the club and it is the others, many only local players, whose descendants I hope to reach through this site.

Do you have a deadline for writing your history - are you prepared to wait for the information to come to you, or are you out there trying to contact people?
Were the matches reported in the local newspaper each week?

My only deadline will be when I am satisfied that I have exhausted all likely sources. I am currently completing the collation of data from newspapers at the British Library before researching players' backgrounds at the National Archives and Football League. I am hoping that anyone who had an ancestor with a connection to the club may see this and contact me during my research.

What kind of dates are you looking at?  As you are aware, this club changed its name to New Brighton, so is it just the New Brighton Tower club you are researching?

New Brighton Tower football club was formed during the summer of 1897 but only lasted until 1901 when the directors wound it up. This is the period I am currently researching.
The later New Brighton club (The Rakers) was formed in 1921 but had no connection at all with the earlier Tower club.

Thought so. Spent a lot of my time there in the fifties and sixties but totally different to your research.  My mother used to wash their kit (by hand).  :)
