Looking for info on the parentage of John Miles b 1815/16 Chilthorne Domer.
He married Maria Penny in 1843 and his father was also John, still living.
Any help much appreciated  :)

this is a little bit tricky because the coverage for  Chilthorne Domer online is very limited.

As much as there are entries on familysearch.org from the old International Genealogical Index for the place in question they are limited in vague scope; equally the entries on freereg are limited.

as you can see by the following link >
http://www.dustydocs.com.au/county-page/c/1/england/33/somerset.html
[scroll down to Chilthorne Domer]

equally genuki is limited for information...
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/ChilthorneDomer/

however, a new indicator suggests >

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ian.sage/PR/pr_index_ae.html#C

which I did not follow through with as I didnt have time...so try the latter after signing up and see what their scopes are......     but hugh wallis pages show limited microfilming which I have to question.....

as it was my understanding the parish was fairly well done  in the the initial filming....

I would be checking all around Yeovil for the Miles family , and even into Wiltshire or surrounding counties.......   as a last resort contact Bristol Bath FH group as they may have a transcription...

I think personally you may not get back very far on this line after I had some similiar problems doing research in this area..... but dont let me put u off..........    please let me know how u go on the tiscali link please....

Actually there is considerable coverage of Chilton Domer online

http://www.freereg.org.uk/parishes/som/c.shtml#1

Parish registers and Bishop's Transcripts, with just a few gaps which are under progress. It looks like John Miles was a couple of years younger than suggested:

1.   "Actually there is considerable coverage of Chilton Domer online"  >>>>> not for the Miles family
In all there were about 30 entries that I saw....   the parish overall may have coverage .......

2.   There were TWO Johns listed , the first I suspect was an infant.......

3.  Of the material online I would also be finding the original PRs for the additional information such as occs etc......

1.  FreeREG includes full transcripts of the parish registers and the Bishop's Transcripts for the parish and period in question. i.e. everything legible written into the original forms except the minister's details, and anything in the margins.  But of course it would be nice to be able to see the actual files rather than just search them; that can be done by joining the Stone Hundred Group

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stonehundred

2. The only two entries I can see from Chilthorne Domer on FreeREG are the PR and BT records for the same event.

3. FreeREG generally includes occupations, etc. and certainly does in this case. In some parishes existing transcripts have been used which may not have included all details. That should be indicated by TR after the church name but I'm afraid that has sometimes been neglected. Corrections are under way.
