In the last census William is also listed I think as born Llandwrog I think but there are a few options in years pre 1891 with father's Thomas who worked in jobs related to quarrying.

I don't suppose there was a related witness at the wedding??  Have to go out shortly - will check back later

With due apologies if you knew this. Although the 1881 census says Bangor, Rhyd y Groes is in fact a small area of Pentir, about 2 to 3 miles outside of Bangor (see googlemaps) Pentir is in the parish of Bangor though.

At St Cedol parish churchyard, Pentir  grave D003 (GFHS MI's):
Owen son of Thomas & Elizabeth Jones, Rhydygroes, Pentir 18 12 1868 aged 4
Jane, their daughter 14 9 1876 aged 18
Elizabeth Jones 26 5 1880 aged 48
Thomas Jones 13 2 1912 aged 88

This age is right for your Thomas Jones. Note that the address is only showing for Owen and the others are not necessarily to that address. Burial book lookups may provide that (aren't they on FindMyPast?) Do Jane and Elizabeth featrure in the pre 1881 ones you found?

{I'd say in the 1911 census you should consider he is the Thomas Jones aged 86 born Llithfaen living at Rhydygroes, Pentir. Llithfaen is in the parish of Pistyll.}

I have now looked at the 1871 census and the family at Rhydygroes (last of 11 of that name, suggesting it's no 11) matches the 1881 you quote at No 11 Rhyd y Groes and includes wife Elizabeth and daughter Jane both of right age for the MI provided.

The 1911 census I suggest has William and Mary Ellen Jones of the right ages for William and Mary E in the 1881 one you quote.

Just gone through the thread again and just realised that you have eliminated this family as being the one you seek. D'oh!
