GREENLAND, Fred A V G - Streatham, Surrey? WW1
« on: Wednesday 18 February 15 01:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm writing a bio of every WW1 service person from my town, Stockton, NSW, Australia.

On our memorial is one: Fred A V G GREENLAND who lists his place of birth as Streatham, Surrey (Parish of Brixton).

I am trying to find his BDM details and I've had no luck. Partly because I can't work out where to look for records!! In 1896 is Streatham parish part of Surrey or London?

I've checked GENUKI and FamilySearch and can't work it out. I can't find the parish in the Surrey or London records on Ancestry or FindMyPast.

I have been able to find a George Alfred Victor GREENLAND from Grafham, Surrey, but this isn't my guy (I've found his military records and the physical description is different and he also survived the war).

But, I am beginning to suspect that maybe the guy I am researching stole the aboves identity (look at initials) when he came to Australia, with just enough differences to make it impossible to track? I haven't been able to find any passenger records for Fred GREENLAND either, which makes me even more suspicious.

So, can someone help me with where I should be looking for Streatham records, so I can check all the possible births to see if I can track him down?

I will cross post to the London board as well.

Cheers,
Laren
