HMS Clio, Menai Straights

I have just found a possible match for my Great Grandfather Thomas Smith on the 1881 Census and he is on the training ship Clio moored off Bangor Pier on the Menai Straights. It appears the 260 boys aboard were considered to need firm control and discipline to save them from a life of crime. Does anyone know if any registers still exist ? I would be very grateful if anyone has more information about  Clio and the boys.

The wonderful workhouses site says records are at Anglesey Archives - Industrial Estate Road, Bryn Cefni Industrial Estate, Llangefni, Anglesey LL77 7JA.

There have been previous postings re. Clio, and they contain useful info., including a reference to a book published on the training ship.
If you go to 'Search' and put in clio, and leave rest blank, it will bring up the postings.

Hi ellenmai,

If you put in training ship clio plus images you will get a selection of photographs of the Clio moored in Menai Straits.
