Cardross Parish Church burials
« on: Thursday 19 February 15 09:06 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if and how I can find out where my ancestors are buried at the old Cardross Church (the one that was bombed) and also if there are headstones for them? I'm hoping to visit the area sometime in the future. Their details are as follows

My Great Great Grandparents
Flora Miller McCrae (married name Colquhoun) died 15th Nov 1873 Kilmahew Farm
Walter Colquhoun died 25th July 1881 Kilmahew Farm

My Great Grandparents
Agnes Henderson Scott (married name Colquhoun) died 4th January 1891 Auchensail Farm
James Colquhoun died 12th April 1910 Auchensail Farm

Thank you.

Thank you rosie17 for your reply and offer of help. You previously helped me track down my Grandparents grave in Helensburgh. I will try to contact Cardross Crematorium. Thank you again.

My GG Grandparents are there and a few years ago I contacted Argyll & Bute trying to find out if their stone had survived.  After some correspondence back and forth they said a noticeable chunk was missing from the side but the stone was still standing they even arranged to have someone meet me there to show me where it was.

Ironically, I have since seen the stone a few times online as well as many others.  It is a well photographed churchyard, perhaps you might get lucky.

Thanks DonM - I might try contacting Argyll & Bute to see if they can help. Can you tell me where you  found photos of headstones and maybe I'll be lucky enough to find what I'm looking for.
Thank you again.

Its been a few years, but I started just with a IE/Google Search for Photos Cardross Cemetery, then Flicker, Stock Photos (a few sites) and the last time I saw it online was just a couple of years ago and that was with Geograph (the photo every square grid of Scotland site), it can be a bit hard to navigate but there were several photos on this site.

Hello House2000
Live in the village and I think we have a copy of the 19th century burials in the present Church office.  I will have a look later this morning.  isk

Hi HOUSE2000

No trace of any of the names.  There is a burial for a Walter Colquhoun in the middle of the 20th century, could be a descendant .  Sorry not to be able to help. isk
