Elizabeth James of Haverfordwest
« on: Thursday 19 February 15 23:08 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,

I can't seem to decide on a baptism for Elizabeth James who was born 1807/1808

from the 1851 census she states that she was from Uzmaston,
the 1861 census for Haverfordwest is missing or incomplete or so I believe
the 1871 I am unsure of her whereabouts but its around the time her husband Benjamin Watkins died
the 1881 she was matron at the infirmary and put place of birth as Haverfordwest but it seems this return wasn't very detailed on its inhabitants..
she died in 1889

I wonder if anyone could located her baptism please?

Looks like Benjamin died in July 1871 so they should still be together on that census - somewhere.

Hi
I am also researching Elizabeth Watkins (nee James) as a descendant of these family lines. I am also stuck on her baptism record as there appear to be at least 2 Elizabeth James' baptisms at Uzmaston around this time in addition to numerous others in various parts of H'west.
eg Name:   Elizabeth James
Gender:   Female
Baptism Date:   25 Nov 1810
Baptism Place:   Uzmaston,Pembroke,Wales
Father:   James William
Mother:   Frances
FHL Film Number:   105214

So still a challenge for me!

I am also seeking a marriage record for her and Benjamin Watkins. I have Banns for Benjamin Watkins, bachelor & Elizabeth James, spinster, both of this Parish (St Martins, H'west). Banns read 26 Feb, 5 Mar & 12 Mar 1837 but no marriage record.

I agree with the comments re 1861 & 1871 census records.

Also note there is a book "The County Hospital story: The Pembrokeshire and Haverfordwest Infirmary and the Pembroke County War Memorial Hospital" Unknown Binding – 1989
by W. (Bill) L Richards published by Haverfordwest (Dyfed) : Pembrokeshire Health Authority 1988/9 which appears to be in at least some UK libraries but sadly not on-line. It may have some information on her time as matron if someone could browse and let me know.

Regards
