When I first read your post I though 'Tabouagh' was supposed to be the name of a place but I see from another topic that this is supposed to be her first name.

Looking for any help with trying to trace my grandmothers birth Margaret Lynch born about 1876 as I do not know her mothers surname I have hit a brick wall on the 1881 census her mothers name was Tabouagh has anyone heard that Christian name before her parents were from Ireland and her father was Michael Lynch he was a tailor any help would be appreciated

Reply #3 on that thread has a snippet from the census showing the writing.

I think whatever the name is was written phonetically by an Englishman trying to make sense of an Irish accent.

Could the first letter be actually "J" ?      - possibly "Johanagh"
Usually spelt Johannah and sometimes shortened to Hannah.

I see what you mean (and my Irish g g grandmother was called Johannah  ;D) ...but these are 'J's on the same page & the 'T's of Tailor.

I wonder if it's the same writing on the whole page? or if the same person their letters are not written consistantly? compare the two Marys (especially the letter y)

I think you could be correct.
In the 1901 Census there are 11 Johanagh and another 4 with the double n.
