elizabeth SEXTON(nee Marshall)
« on: Saturday 21 February 15 22:20 GMT (UK) »
 I am trying to verify Elizabeth Sextons parents names. She was Elizabeth Marshall according to the 1851 census born abt1797 Ipswich Suffolk. She married13 nov 1824 St Margaret Ipswich to William Sparrow Sexton I am trying to connect her with charlotte augusta Marshall whoms father was Edmund Marshall. Do the marriages that early not have parents names attached to them. William S Sexton died along with her two sons and daughter so she  shifted to Nz between 1851-60 They lived at Wherstead. thanks lnr

Hi
Pre 1837 marriages are unlikely to have the father's name. Post 1837 marriages should. No English marriagee have mothers name.

But I am a loss as to how you know that an Elizabeth Marshall on 1851 census is actually an Elizabeth Sexton?

You just beat me to it - she appears as Elizabeth Sexton, widow, with 3 servants.

Where Marshall?

Hi inr,
In the Ipswich St.Margarets transcripts (ex Suffolk FHS) there is this  baptism as;
Ipswich St.Margaret;
25-10-1795 Elizabeth Marshall d/o Edmund & Elizabeth (late Rivers), born 6 Apr, rec'd 16-2-1796

There are another 3 children baptised to this couple, if this is the correct family.

Hi inr,

I should have added that my CD from the SFHS only goes to 1812 and so I couldn't find Charlotte's entry.
But on  FamilySearch she is listed as;
bapt. 20-7-1823  Ipswich St.Margaret d/o Edmund & Elizabeth;

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NKX8-45F
So it looks like its the same family.

Edward and Edmund are sometimes used interchangeably.

And perhaps the writing is not very legible for others.
