Looking for Catholic churches near Mullaghglass or Camlough
« on: Monday 23 February 15 12:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I found a marriage record and children of an Edward Hunter and Bridget Kelly who baptized their son John Hunter 1870 In Newry. On family search it has Mullaghglass on record.  I found another 2 children, one was baptized in Liverpool in 1874 catholic.  So they probably moved to Liverpool.  Edward's father was also a John Hunter and I am looking to find a connection with my ancestor John Hunter born 1828 and died in Newry 1891.  He was a tinsmith . I found a John Hunter in Camlough perhaps on Griffith valuation, I can't remember as I thought it wasn't a connection, but it may be worth checking out for a possible connection.
Can anybody give me advice on where I could find records online for Armagh.  I had been searching through AncestryIreland but to no avail. I found the Liverpool birth on ancestry.com and some other info on Family search. It might not be a connection and I don't have much information.  Ancestry Armagh has so many Hunter's I wouldn't know where to start for catholic churches in Armagh area especially Mullaghglass or Camlough.
Thanks in advance

The marriage is an extracted civil record and Mullaghglass would probably be the sub-district for the registration-

John (1870) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPTP-JLJ
Mary Elizabeth (1872) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F5VV-6RV

Have you found the parents & both Irish-born children in English census records to be sure this is the same family?

Marriages usually take place in the bride's church so the Hunters may actually have been elsewhere- the marriage certificate will list residence of bride and groom at time of marriage as well as fathers' names & occupations. You can view the certificate on GRONI's site for a small fee. In this case, if Edward Hunter's father is a tinsmith then the indication would be that you could be on the right track.

PRONI has an extensive connection of church records-

This site is also very good and the map probably helps if you aren't familiar with the area-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Aghadowey,
I only had a short look on the census.   I couldn't find a record with them altogether on the English census but will have to be more thorough.  The best bet is Groni then for the marriage cert.
Thankyou, it never dawned on me that it would have father's occupation.

Hi Aghadowey,
I found the record on Groni. They were married roman catholic. Full age.  He states his occupation as tinker. Father John Hunter has no occupation down but Edward is from Camlough. Now where and when did I find John Hunter Camlough?
Im certain it is the same family.
