Cant seem to find anymore about Catherine Mcleod and her parents John Mcleod and Catherine Mc Donald  on Scotlands People
Lochmaddy sounds lovely as well as North Uist, if very isolated

Love to find out more Any suggestions please

Hi Jen

Catherie MacDonald wife of John McLeod certainly lived past 1855. Have you tried searching for her death entry on SP? The 1861 census entry would help in confirming her marital status.

Someone on a/try has added an 1871 census entry image which shows father John McLeod still alive. Everyone born in N Uist except for John Snr.:

John Macleod 68 Formerly Miller b. Snizort Skye
Catherine Macleod 57
Angus Macleod 17 Pupil Teacher
Margaret Macleod 26
Ann Macdonald 2 granddaughter

Address: John Macleod, North Uist

Let you look through the link to tree which has a number of original images (connected with son Angus Margaret I think).

Possible marriage for sister Margaret in Dennistoun, Lanarkshire in 1884. Both parents showing as deceased by now http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/2049885/person/-1866847050

However....on Margaret McLeod's 1884 marriage cert mentioned above, one of the witnesses was a John Strachan. Wondering if this is her brother in law, husband to Catherine?

Monica

Added: Also, Dennistoun is where the young Strachan family are to be found in 1881.

Added 2: Also from the Strachan entry in 1881, wondering if the young Ann McDonald showing in the household is actually Catherine's niece (connecting to the 2 year old Ann McDonald with grandparents in 1871)?
