Alfred Verity
« on: Tuesday 24 February 15 11:15 GMT (UK) »
Alfred Verity born 1869 Bradford married Annie Rayner at St Peters Bradford in 1892.  On the 1901 census his wife (Annie Verity) is showing as widowed with two children, Horace and Amelia. She is living with her parents.  This is definitely her as I have other records for her children.  I cannot trace his death record anywhere, please could someone help.   Thank you.

I cannot find a death index but I did find the following Index to Death Duty Registers Alfred Verity. Residence LEEDS Date of Death 15 March 1895.
The name of the executor is not clear, two scribbles for initials followed by Verity.

Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Not the same Alfred who died 1895.  Probate details show that Alfred was married to a Mary Ellen, lived in Leeds, died 15/3/1895 at St. Anne's on Sea, Lancs.   His death entry is Mar.qtr. Fylde, Lancs. and he was 44.

Looking at the 1901 census, I see that the daughter Amelia was born in Glamorgan in 1894 and the son Horace in Bradford in 1895. I wonder if Alfred died or left Annie between the two births and that is why she returned to Bradford? It might be worth getting Horace's birth certificate to see what it says about his father on that.

Another alternative might be that he was killed in the 2nd Boer War  :-\
