Mothers maiden name
« on: Tuesday 24 February 15 13:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I would appreciate it if anybody could decipher the maiden name on this record from Greenock in 1866, the death record for Thomas Murphy.

regards

Possibly a mis-spelt MacIldue/MacIldowie, the former from Appin according to Black's "Surnames", the latter from the Gaelic for Black as used in Cowal, so a steamer trip across the Clyde from Greenock.

Have you had a look at the online archive to the Greenock Telegraph courtesy of the Watt Library.

Skoosh.
