William Bentley marriage in Ossett

 could any one help? im looking for a marriage, all I know is William Bentley b1795 married a lady called Mary. I know they lived in Ossett Yorkshire in 1851.their first child was born in 1827 in Ossett Yorkshire.

That is the eldest child in 1851 but if you check the 1841 you will find they had older children - Ann aged 20 and Sarah aged 15.  They also had Mary aged 10

Both Ann & Sarah could have been a bit older than shown as ages from 16 + were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs in 1841

Carole is correct. The childrens baptism can be found in the Non Conformist registers, Ann's record gives her an exact birthdate of 2nd July 1818

The children were christened at OSSETT GREEN INDEPENDENT CONGREGATIONAL,OSSETT,

The first I can find was a Lydia born 22.7.1815 Christened  22.3.1816.

If you search  www.familysearch.org.  using batch number C08720-1  you will find
the christenings.

Any problems with how to search please come back.

This is another possible, the first child Lydia was born 22.7.1815 and not christened until
23rd March 1816, and you have to ask why.

Was this because the child was born out of wedlock? not christened until after the parents marriage?

If this was the case this could be the marriage:-

15.2.1816 Snaith Yorkshire William Bentley = Mary Chappel.

There are no Bentley children Bpt to William & Mary Bentley in Snaith.

Snaith is 27 miles from Ossett.

Hi,

The last child born to William and Mary looks to be JOHN BENTLEY born c1837.

There is one registered in the Dec. Qtr. 1837 Todmorden district (which covered Ossett at that time if I am not mistaken). Buying this would give his mother's maiden name.
