Irish birth 1838
« on: Wednesday 25 February 15 13:57 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone inspire me on some research I'm doing.

Dennis Corbett/Corbit was born about 1838 in Ireland.(No idea of where!)  His parents were Patrick Corbett and Bridget Connor, both Irish.  By 1841 they are in the UK.  Patrick is a labourer.  Patrick and Bridget would have married in Ireland before coming to the UK.

I have Dennis's death certificate but it gives no further information.

Any ideas anyone ?

Hi,
Unfortunately birth registration in Ireland did not start until 1864 so you will have to depend on church records where these exist. To find the church you need to know the religion and a fairly exact location of the birth.

That's the problem. I have no idea of where they came from in Ireland.  I realize both the marriage and birth took place before civil registration, that's why I'm so stuck.  :(

Have you followed him through all the census years? Sometimes this proves fruitful with mention of a location, rather than just 'Ireland'.

Yes, right through to his death.  I've also traced all other members of the family through the census and no luck.

Rootsireland has a birth record for Bridget Corbett with parents Patrick Corbett and Bridget Connor in Co. Limerick in 1832. Nothing for Denis nor any sign of the marriage of Patrick and Bridget.

Thanks for that, although I have no record of a Bridget, but she may of course have died later.

Unlikely, as Dennis their son was born in Ireland.
