Three of these trustees having quitted the trust by death or otherwise, members of the families of Playter of Satterley, co. Suffolk, and of Onslow of Onslow, in the liberty of Shrewsbury, managed the property from 1641 to 1665, when they and others sold it to Daniel Wycherley.

The Wycherleys were a wild race, but they were succeeded by a wilder. Daniel Wycherley, father to " one of the greatest wits and most eminent comic poets that England has ever produced," owned the manor of Wem when the great fire of March 3rd, 1677, consumed nearly the whole town. But a costly lawsuit compelled him to sell the manors of Wem and Loppington, which on December 23rd, 1684, were purchased for £9,000 by the Lord Chief Justice Jeffreys.

Amongst the most important families connected with Clive and Sansaw, were those of Russel, Gery, Wycherley, and Gardner. William Wycherley, the dramatist, was born at Clive Hall, about 1640. The Clive Hall estate passed from the Wycherleys in 1752, to their relatives, Nehemiah Huffa and Elizabeth Cadman, and from them to Robert Embrey, at whose decease it was sold to Charles Harding, and it is now the property of Thomas Meares, Esq. The Sansaw estate was purchased by John Gardner, in 1622, and it remained with his descendants until 1883, when it was sold to James Jenkinson Bibby, Esq.. of Hardwicke Grange, and is now the property of his son, Frank Bibby, Esq. Mr. Percy Wright Thorniley, of Shooter's Hill House, also owns land in this parish.
